CBC runs its GANZ Pro network camera recording software on Contec’s VPC-1000 FA computer, which delivers the 24/7 reliability and long model availability a security system needs.
Overview
CBC Co., Ltd., headquartered in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, makes monitoring cameras and lenses and builds network-based security systems. It describes itself as the world’s top maker of monitoring camera lenses, and its GANZ brand is among Japan’s most popular camera lines. Its GANZ Pro recording software brings network camera images to a computer for surveillance and recording in apartments, supermarkets, convenience stores, financial institutions and data centers.
Challenge
A security system must run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so its core computer must be highly reliable, recover quickly from failure and remain maintainable. CBC needed an industrial computer rather than a frequently changing consumer model, but most factory computers lacked the image-processing capacity monitoring requires.
Solution

CBC adopted the Contec VPC-1000, a slim, reliable FA computer with strong value. It has three standard PCI slots, front-replaceable fan, battery and other consumables, a long service life and a watchdog timer. GANZ Pro on the VPC-1000 offers:
- Simultaneous recording from up to 32 network cameras, with up to 200 registered
- Multi-display with 4 to 24 split screens and dual-monitor live and playback
- Pan-tilt-zoom control, auto switching, privacy masks and a camera map
- Up to 16x digital zoom on live video and JPEG or AVI export
- Motion-triggered recording and fast motion search

Results
Mitokazu Michishita, Corporate Executive Officer, New Business Department, said CBC chose Contec mainly for long-term stability: consumer computers change models every four quarters, while a Contec model stays available for the long term. About a year after implementation the system has run without trouble and earned customer trust, and CBC plans to keep working with Contec.
